September 8: Demonstration to support young activists in Belarus E-mail
Monday, 03 September 2007
On September 8, 2007 Belarusian Youth Movement of America will hold the demonstration to support young activists in Belarus, whom Belarusian Government tries to imprison unlawfully.

The closed hearings, on regional young activists of Belarusian movement "Malady Front": Ivan Shila, Nastya Azarka and Yaraslav Grischenya, will be hold on September 4, 2007 in Nesvizh and Saligorsk and on September 10, 2007 in Baranavichy. They are adjudged by the article 193-1 of Criminal Code RB "the organization and activity of the organization which has not passed state registrationт". At the same time Department of Justice doesn't register the organization because its participants are "criminals and they cant have positive intentions". But for all that, Belarusian Government makes these young people criminals by arresting them and sending to prison, just because their views are contrary to the "officially accepted".

The article 193-1 with other amendments was included in the Criminal Code by the Belarusian legislature on December 2005, which established a sentence in prison for the activity in the unregistered civic organizations and the criticism of the Belarusian government. It happened before the presidental elections in 2006. By this article the leader of the "Malady Front" Dimitry Dashkevich was jailed for 1.5 year on November 2006. Todays targets: Nastya, Ivan and Yaraslav are colleagues and friends of Dimitry who at the moment spend almost a year in prison. We don't want our youth to share the same fate, who didn't do anything bad for their country and people. The Belarusian Youth Movement of America  expresses solidarity with Ivan Shila, Nastya Azarka, Yaraslay Grischenya and Dmitriy Dashkevich. We demand from Belarusian Government to stop the persecution of young people by political motives. We want Belarusian people and international community to pay attention to the shoking violation of human rights in Belarus.

The demonstration will be hold in front of building of Organization of United Nations in New York
(between E 42 and E 43 street 1 Ave.). We start at 11 am.

760 United Nations Plaza
New York City, NY 10017, USA
