On July 15, 2007 in New York an annual traditional rally of the captive nations took place. Belarusans were among the participants. The members of the rally exclaimed the slogans "Lukashenka – NO!", "Belarus – YES!", "Long Live Belarus!", "Freedom to Belarus!".
The President of the Committee of the Captive Nations Horst Uglich announced the following to the Radio Liberty:
"We have been organizing this rally every summer for 49 years. We will keep remain true to our mission until all the nations become free. Why are there so many Belarusan White-Red White stripped flags? There is still a dictatorship flourishing in Belarus because of the politics of Lukashenka, which is far away from being called a democracy. Belarus is rather a Stalinistic country. We support the strive of Belarusans to bring democracy and freedom to their country".
Belarusan-American Association and Belarusan Youth Movement of America took part in the rally. Their representatives gave the following comment to the Radio Liberty:
Andey: "We protest against injustice, against all the dictatorship regimes in the world, and especially against the tyranny in Belarus".
Vitali: "Today we participate in the rally of the Captive Nations, nations where negative things happen too often. I am from Belarus, and I disagree with the situation in my home country; therefore, I am here among the participants".
Why are there so many White-Red-White flags displayed today?
Vitali: "Because there are many of us!....(the participants of the rally shout "Long Live Belarus!)".
