The personal exhibition of belarusian artist Lubou Karpava took place on the 19th of September in Highland Park. At the end of the traditional morning worship, father Zinovy priest of Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church noted that the works of Mrs.Karpava are created with incredible taste, warmth and skills. Remembering one of the past sermons according to which talents were given by God, father Zinovy claimed that obviously the Belarusian artist didn't bury her talent, but on the contrary she is using it and improving it - that's what people should aspire to achieve.
Going downstairs to the dining hall, each of more than 50 guests could have satisfied themselves in her achievements:there were 30 embroidered works made by the Belarusian artist in the past 10 years which she presented that day, the most of them were demonstrated to the public for the first time. It happened during Blessed Virgin Mary holiday( most of the works included the name of Virgin Mary).
Thus the 25th exhibition Of the Belarusian Museum in New York became the first personal exhibition for Lubou Karpava. One more Belarusian who lives in the USA, and who agreed to acquaint Belarusian community with her works.
Briefly telling some facts from the biography:birth in Gomel, move to Minsk, after to the USA,education in the Belarusian State Economic University (Narhoz),working as an engineer,Mrs.Lubou focused and highlighted her achievements and her creativity. Her passion for embroidering since youth led her to a club where she helped children and quiet often their parents as well to master peculiar belarusian embroidery techniques.
Creating artistic works, weaving flowers is a Belarusian tradition which takes its roots from ancient times. Creating her arts requiered a lot of experience, understanding and analysing of her surroundings. She lived in the motherland for 46 years before moving to the USA in 1993. Getting a job as a cosmetologist and successfully running a private business, she kept on searching for something special which could allow her to use her talent fully.
Urgent american problems, lack of time and free moments, let her continue creating her works of art after 8 years (2001). The present of her friend - "Mother of God Icon" - stimulated her to start creating again. That simple image on the paper encouraged her dream to embroider the same image with beads on a cloth.
Then she envisioned other images. The artist embroiders in different circumstances: during family gatherings while watching TV, alone at night, while having a free second in the day time. Each work requires special approach, and according to Lubou`s words it can take one month to finish the piece of art.
Embroidered with beads on a cloth and golden or silver thread her works are carrying all the warmth of Belarusian hospitality, it helps you discover all the values of the Belarusian soul, it makes you think about eternity.
Lubou's heart has taken her to the 29th Meeting of the Belarusians of the Noth America in New Brunswick. Two weeks ago Lubou Karpava met new people over there and here in the belarusin church. As she says, that helped her find new directions for creating: now she is planning to embroider images of Belarusian Saints and shrines-cathedrals and churches, historical and current. Wish you all the best, Mrs Lubou!
After the official part of the exhibition everybody could personally talk to the artist, ask her questions, share thoughts about the works. The atmosphere was wonderful thanks to a picnic with lottery and cheerful chatting of the Belarusians. |
