With Hope, Faith and Belarus in Heart E-mail
Thursday, 04 February 2010
On December 6th the traditional Sunday morning worship service in Belarusian Church in Highland Park started as usual at 10 a.m. after the mass the parishioners met with a well-known Belarusian artist Ales Shaternik.

In his Sunday message father Zinovij talked about Saint Mary, about mothers’ love to their sons and daughters, the strongest love in the whole world.

After the mass it becomes traditional for the congregation to gather together to discuss the latest news and share the everyday troubles and worries. This time a famous Belarusian artist Ales Shaternik joined us.

He shared his impressions and thoughts about being in the United States, meeting with Belarusian Diaspora, about the problems Belarusian society facing now.

He remembered his visit to Washington D.C. (recent exhibition “Art against Dictatorship”), in the exhibition hall Ales noticed an inscription saying “In God we trust” on one of the state symbols. God and Faith are the two things any society should be based on. Only with God in your heart and Faith in better Future, in your Strengths the society can be Free. Without the freedom there is no language, no culture, no history, and no country.

Surprisingly for some Ales Shaternik who says his Muse and Inspiration are silent is also a poet. His book “The Sun Cross” unites his paintings (“Light”), his sculptures (“Form”) and the Word.

Lately Ales Shaternik managed to reconstruct one of the icons in the Church of Zhirovichi Mother of God. It was especially difficult to work with the eyes as the light that comes from the icon is sacred.

“Such a talent could only be given by God. I believe together we will be able to do a lot,” – thanked father Zinovij.
The next step in the relationships of the Belarusian Museum and Belarusian Autocephaly was made; the Belarusian Museum presented Highland Park Parish with two works by photographer Siarhei Arden.

In a couple of minutes the exhibition left the church to wend its way towards new cities and new countries to bring a word about Belarus, its culture, people, history and present situation.

There is no Belarus without the Belarusians that’s why our country needs us now.

And only with God and Faith in our hearts we will be able to revive our Belarus.
