21 years have passed since April, 26 the tragic date for Belarus. The greatest technological disaster has irreparable consequences for our country. About 2/3 of the radioactive fallout landed in Belarus and polluted approximately 1/5 of the territory and 20% of the population. The first wave of short half-life radionuclides covered almost entire Belarus though a part of them was forced to accumulate on purpose (not to let them reach Moscow). Everything was done with criminal secrecy so the people had no chance to escape.
We are the hostages of the regime that does not care of health or life of the people. We demand
the truth about the consequences of the catastrophe;
to renew all the privileges for Chernobyl liquidators and victims;
to cancel restrictions on humanitarian help from abroad;
to renovate medical institutions and radioactive control of agricultural products;
to evacuate people from the most polluted zones ( 15 Ci/km2 or more);
to discontinue using the contaminated areas for agriculture;
to put an end to forced assignment of young specialists.
We want to live in a free country whose authorities do not lie to its citizens.
We want to have future.
We will go into the streets to march at “Chernobyl Way”!
We invite everyone to join us April 26. “Chernobyl Way” will start at 11 a.m. in front of the building of the UN Headquarters in New York (in 1st Avenue, between E 42 Street and E 43 Street)
