President of the Rada of the Belarusian National Republic Ivonka Survilla addressed Belarusians of the world on the occasion of celebration March 25 in Belarus.
Dear Fellow-countrymen!
In 2008 Belarusians of the world celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic.
Ninety years ago in extremely difficult conditions Belarusian people found courage and strength to declare to the world, it wants to be a host in its own house. The Charter on Independence of 25 March 1918 is one of the most important documents in the history of Belarusian people, without which Belarusians might have disappeared. So we must celebrate gratefully the 90th anniversary of that event.
Pessimists among us would probably say there is nothing to be proud of as we have not achieved our aim to become an independent European state like our neighbors.
I would like to remind those who still think so everything we experienced in the 20th century, our endurance, and our firm believe in better future of our people.
During those 90 years we fought insane Russification, defended our great values: our language and culture, we reminded the world that Belarus lives and the Belarusians have the right for freedom and sovereignty.
There is much to be proud of and a great occasion to celebrate.
Dear Friends, it’s everybody’s responsibility to make this last effort that will free us. In the countries you live in inform the governments of unbearable treatment of Lukashenka’s nomenklatura towards our youth, language and heritage. Appeal to your governments in order they show Lukashenka’s regime that the world won’t tolerate forever the mockery and humiliation of peaceful demonstrants who want to celebrate solemnly the BNR 90th anniversary, the Day of our Freedom and Independence.
Together we’ll attain our aim – freedom and democracy for our people.
Long Live Belarus!
