On February 10 the Belarusian Youth Movement of America will hold a rally of solidarity with young Belarusian activists repressed by the current regime.
The court of October district of Magilou sentenced Artur Finkevich, activist of the Young Front, to 1.5 year in minimum security colony. The political prisoner has been found guilty of misconduct at the correctional institution while serving the sentence.
Two years ago Artur Finkievich was arrested and imprisoned for political graffiti “We have enough of you!” and “We want to have a new one!” Several times during the imprisonment term the young man was set sanctions for violation of the regime. He disagreed with the sanctions, but he did not manage to appeal against them. If it were not for the criminal case, Artur would have been released. On February 8, 2008 Artur will celebrate his 23rd birthday! He is so young but his hair started to turn grey and he already has heart troubles.
Members of the Young Front Andrus Tsanuta, Kasja Salaueva, an activist Andrei Kim and a member of “Hramada” Zmicer Lisenak are under the similar threat.
Considering Belarusian desperate and hopeless situation we see a real chance and opportunity to set our friends free and protect and save them from the possible future criminal cases. It is proved by surprise releases of the prisoners of conscience Zmicer Dashkievich, Mikalai Autuhovich and Yuri Lavonau. And the most important thing is to use this chance and we will stand to win!
The rally is to start at 10.30 a.m. in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York (in 1st Avenue, between E 42 Street and E 43 Street)
760 United Nations Plaza New York City, NY 10017, USA
