“PEOPLES TELEVISION” from the creators of cartoons about Lukashenka E-mail
Wednesday, 12 December 2007
“Peoples television” appeared in Internet on December 10, 2007 together with new works from the creators of cartoons about Lukashenka and his friends. (You can find them here: www.multclub.org) The creators want their project to become really national. “We want to abandon the idea when all the cartoons are made by several people. It has become too dangerous and that’s why it limits creative work. Me and my friend Andrei live in Estonia because in Belarus Lukashenka wants to put us in jail. Criminal case against us is pending and a trap is set.” Says Paval Marozau one of the creators of the project. We found a different way. We built a combined team of our creative friends, we found young people who can draw and do the soundtracks and we want to involve more people. As a result the cartoons will become more interesting and more people will take part in a noble cause. We want to make a “real national product”.

New people already joined the project. The leading cartoonist tells about his motivation: “I don’t like politics or politicians. To my mind they are very unpleasant people. Common people can’t influence them. That’s why for me it’s a way to express my thought and emotions towards our life, politicians that rule. Besides I like the conception of the project, our team. It’s a pleasure to deal with decent and interesting people.”

The creators of “Peoples Television” will regularly release new cartoons and flash games about Belarusian political and social life. “Now Belarus faces an interesting situation. Everyone is afraid of Lukashenka.

But laughter is a serious weapon against the regime. Funny can’t be fearful. And our cartoons always made people laugh. Showing that the king is still naked! Now we have a new idea for the project. Before our audience could only watch the cartoons and prompt new script ideas, now it can take part in making them.” Said Andei Abozau one of the participators of the project.

We would remind you that August 16, 2005 The Minsk office of the Public Prosecutor started criminal proceedings based on the cartoons appeared in Internet the main hero of which is Belarusian president Alaksandr Lukashenka. The criminal charges were brought against a group of activists who formed a social initiative “Third Way” on charges relating Article 367 of the Criminal Code "Insult of the President of Belarus“. Police searched the apartments of the accused and confiscated 14 computers and dozens of CDs. The accused had been shadowed, interrogated by KGB; their families were put under the pressure. In 2006 there were attempts to arrest and put the young people in jail and they were forced to go to Estonia and ask for a political asylum. The accused are among the most wanted criminals in Belarus. Four-year imprisonment still threatens them.
